The Department of Epidemiology and Health Statistics formerly was the Department of Preventive Medicine, which was restructured into the current Department of Epidemiology and Health Statistics in 2018. The department now has 5 teachers, including 1 associate professor and 4 lecturers.

The department is mainly responsible for teaching Medical Statistics, Health Statistics, Epidemiology, Nutritional Epidemiology and other courses for the university’s undergraduate, postgraduate and adult education students. It has developed 25 university-level courses, including a university-level excellent course Medical Statistics and a key course named by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. In recent years, 2 textbooks have been published with the department’s members as editor in chief, 6 textbooks with the department’s members as associate editor in chief, 10 textbooks with the department’s members as editorial board members, and 7 national Medical Statistics textbooks compiled with the department’s participation.

The department has undertaken 5 projects from Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and participated in 24 research projects from the National Science and Technology Support Program in the 11th Five-Year Plan Period, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. A total of 32 academic papers have been published in domestic or foreign periodicals with the department’s members as the first author, among which 3 papers are included in SCI and 29 papers are published in core Chinese periodicals.
